The property is only one acre and partially wooded. 2) While the house is at the end of the dead end road, it is in a residential neighborhood and sound travels clearly across the lake. For this reason, any events would need to end by 10:00 pm and no REALLY LOUD activity is allowed at any time. 3) Parking is a concern. The driveway holds 4-6 cars depending on your valet skills. Beyond this, the house is on a very narrow street that does not lend itself well to street parking and there is no lawn parking allowed. So, larger gatherings would require that you determine a way to SHUTTLE people to and from the parking begins one half mile up the road. Any gathering over 15 people 4) The house has a limited septic system that requires vertical pumping and would require that you rent the necessary outdoor PORTABLE TOILETS for your event. 5) You may need to prepare for inclement weather. The house cannot accommodate a large group; so, be prepared in case you need to rent a TENT to protect you from the sun or rain. 6) You will need to find a CATERER. The kitchen is not big enough to cook for a large gathering. Your CLEANING after party is expected. 7) We also want to remind you that if you need more space for overnight guests, we have another property for renting just down the street. Beautiful renovated apartment that walks out at street level. It is in the lower level of our historic home built in 1773. The apartment has baseboard heat / central air, is quiet, clean, and a great place to stay. There is no carpet and no pets are allowed in the apartment or our home above as we have allergies. The tv has cable, there is wifi, and a fully functioning kitchen with granite and nice appliances. The bathroom is very nice and has a really big tile shower. We have off street parking available. It's a great spot if you're in town visiting but would like your own space. Only a block to Main Street which has 20+ great restaurants and many local shops to explore. 4 blocks down the hill are the marinas with 4 restaurants on the docks for lunch, dinner, or late night dancing. We are 1/2 block from The Odeum which is an historic venue that hosts plays and music concerts. We are only a 15 minute drive to Providence, 35 min to Newport, 1/2hr to the beaches in Narragansett. 10 min from TF Green airport and train which services Boston and NY. We live in the main house with our kids so we do ask that you be respectful. We're very hospitable and look forward to making your stay enjoyable in our guest apartment.

Built in 1677 the Major Thomas Fenner House is the oldest home in the Providence Plantations and one of the few original “stone-enders” in existence. The 2400 sqft 4 BD 2 BA home sits on 3 acres of land siding to Stone Pond. When you head up Stony Acre Dr. turn down the long driveway just before the stop sign. You will be leaving a 1970s residential neighborhood to discover a tranquil setting among ancient trees bringing you back to a time of early colonial Rhode Island. The home was built a few months after King Phillips War in which the settlers homes were burned to the ground. Originally built as a 2 ½ story 18.5” x 18.5” post and beam frame home on a field stone foundation with a massive stone fireplace. The original fire room, sleeping chamber, attic and basement are very much as they were built. In the 1700s additions were added to the south and west and in the 1920s a dormer was put on giving it a Salt Box style and an indoor bathroom. The home served as a residence, court, meeting house and tavern. Google Major Thomas Fenner Bear to see his original recipe for beer. The Home was entered into the National Register of Historic Places in 1990 and is the jewel of early Rhode Island homes. The current owner brought the home back into the Fenner Family in 2006 after a 90 year hiatus with the mission of continuing its preservation for another 330 years. In 2015 the owner decided to make the property available as a vacation rental to help it support itself and to allow the public and architectural and historical scholars greater access to the home. The home is furnished with antiques, period, reproduction furniture and colonial in style. The furnishings provide the ambiance of a historic home while still providing it's guests a comfortable stay with the modern amenities (indoor plumbing, four flat screen TVs wifi and alarm system), that don't interfere with the home's historic nature. Keep in mind this home may have been five star when built, but rustic is a better description today. Among the architectural wonders of the house is the massive field stone chimney on the north side of the house which is why these homes are known as “stone-enders”. The attic window to the left of the chimney is the size of the original windows which had triangular panes of glass imported from England. The post and beam construction is of old growth virgin timbers. Check out the size of summer (wood beam over fireplace) by opening the door to the utility room and looking up to your left. This is also where the switch to the spot light that illuminates the fireplace is located. The fireplace is 10 feet wide and over 5 ½ feet tall. To open and close the flue push up and pull down the metal bar visible on the right hand side of the fireplace. The granite beneath, in front of and siding fireplace is the original kitchen. A heavy metal bar can be seen by looking up the chimney. This was used to hang pots to cook as well as three legged pots sitting in the coals such as the one in the back left hand side of the fireplace. You can see the shallow beehive oven in the back of the chimney which fell out of fashion as a result of too many women catching their dresses on fire while cooking. The large floor joists which can be seen in the basement were placed only 5 inches apart and those joists are given the credit for the home still standing in it's 4th century years. In the attic can be seen the distinctive scars of lumber which has been “pit-sawn”. It was a new England tradition to gift newlyweds two sugar maples to plant in their backyard so they would have maple sugar for life. The maple trees behind the house were likely planted in the 2nd half of the 19th Century. The pantry next to the breakfast nook has been moved from the left of the main fireplace, but it is the original 1677 pantry. As you can imagine a home of this age has some features unique to what guests might be used to. Some doorways are low, thresholds are high, steps are steep, and cracks in the 1677 wide plank flooring would make high heels a nightmare. A 1929 Elmsford gas stove is the centerpiece of the kitchen. The cook top has an open pilot, so do not place anything flammable of top of the stove. The controls for the oven are on the right hand side of the stove.

The temperature for the downstairs (both heat & AC) are controlled by a unit on the wall. Just off of the downstairs hallway, you will notice a private porch with 2 outdoor chairs for your enjoyment. The second floor is just up a flight of stairs and has 2 sofas that can be made into twin-size beds. There are room darkening shades throughout the upstairs. We offer a TV with a Roku & DVD player as well as DVD's available for your entertainment. An electric fireplace adds to the cozy ambiance. The 2nd bathroom with a standup shower is located directly off the living area. A kitchenette with basic amenities is tucked away upstairs. It houses a toaster, oven with stove top, refrigerator, electric kettle, and microwave. There is also a coffee bar for your enjoyment. A washer/dryer unit is tucked away behind the kitchenette to make our guests stay even more like home. The temperature for the upstairs (both heat & AC) are controlled by a unit on the wall. A pack n' play, high chair, children's toys and books are available for guest's use while at our guest house. There is 1 parking spot offered in front of the guest house, marked by a “guest parking” sign. Additional guests will be required to park on the street in front of the main house. We are a 5 minute drive to East Greenwich and Goddard Park. 10 minutes to Wickford and Wickford Junction Railway Station (commuter train to Boston). 25 minutes north to Providence , 25 minutes south to Newport and 20 minutes to Narragansett. 20 minutes to T.F. Green Airport. 50 minutes to Westerly & the southern RI beaches. Closest beach in Goddard Park is only a 5 minute drive! 1 hour 15min drive to Boston and 3 hours drive to New York City.

As you go through the front door a comfy living room area greets you. There is a large TV in this room and the couch opens up to a queen size bed with a Tempurpedic mattress--it's actually very comfortable! The full bathroom has a large walk-in shower. The kitchen has new black granite with white cabinets making it light and airy. There is second living room across from the breakfast bar for socializing and a dining table that seats 6. There is a full size washer and dryer as well in this area. Back yard-- The sliding glass doors look out to a Westerly view of the water and out to a lovely large deck with plenty of seating to watch the sunset. There is a grill for your convenience and a nice grassy fenced in yard. An outdoor shower is located on the North side so you can rinse the sand off! Upstairs--The cottage has two bedrooms and a full bathroom with a whirl-pool bath. The master has a King-size bed with a deck that overlooks the West. The other bedroom has twin beds that can be moved together to make a King-size bed as well. There is plenty of storage. This is a lovely place to relax, vacation and enjoy all Oakland Beach has to offer--swimming, walking by the water, fishing and eating some great seafood! During the Summer the cottage is rented weekly (longer rentals are always welcome). During Fall, Winter and Spring long term renting only.
